The design process is an evolution of ideas. We start by asking a lot of questions, the who, what, when, where and why to help us better understand the event goal. We live in the “why”. The why is what gets us excited. There is purpose in every event plan design concept we produce.
We start the design process by breathing in the where. Most times we conduct a second site visit after our walkthrough with the client. After we get to know your who, what and why we then meditate on the where and how we can bring that to life in ways you’d never imagine. This requires stillness.
The next step is getting inspired through research by creating a thought bubble of words, imagery, adjectives, and verbs. You never know where one idea can lead you.
With this thought bubble of creative ideas we then summarize and pair down our concept to present. Presentation day is always fun. It’s invigorating and thought provoking. We bring it all to the table and sometimes ideas get left on the cutting room floor.
I want to share one of our recent ideas for an event activation that did not make it to production.
Our team was contracted to produce décor for an outdoor retail location for their 4th of July celebration.
One thing you have to know about our style, we are non-traditional thinkers and are always looking to see what else we can do. So of course, no flag bunting for this 4th of July celebration unless it’s tassel and fringe bunting.
Immersed in the possibilities of the event site, it had us thinking about how the 4th of July is the ultimate family friendly summer holiday and what is more summer than kids and pinwheels. Yes! That’s it, pinwheels, let’s suspend red, white and blue pinwheels from the trees above the main activity area and create a buzzworthy photowall filled with fanciful three dimensional pinwheels. You always need to create an instagramable moment, right!
Well… the suspended pinwheels were added to the lost files, but we still want to share the rendering and inspiration with you that was created in collaboration with Studio Cultivate.
Enjoy this lost file! We hope it brings you joy and delight in the possibility.
